Dark Path Wanderer is a procedurally generated roguelike fantasy RPG. It's currently free to download in early access.

  • Zones- The player starts the game by selecting a starting area. These are randomly generated seeds that have varying difficulties and terrain types. The higher the level, the tougher enemy encounters will be.

  • Stats and Skills- You'll have several different stats such as Strength, Dexterity, and more that you'll need to balance to optimize your combat build. Skills such as Sneak and Lockpick are used primarily for skill check scenarios such as bypassing certain combat situations and picking locks.

  • Dungeon and Area Exploration- There are randomly generated dungeons and areas such as cellars, ruins, abandoned buildings, and more that can be explored for loot. Be wary, enemies often lurk inside these locations.

  • Orc Fighting Pits- These can be found while exploring and allow the player to watch and bet on orc pit fights. The orc fighters are randomly generated all with their own unique names, titles, appearances, elemental skills, traits, and weapon preferences.

  • Enemies- encounter a mix of handcrafted and procedurally generated enemies of all varieties with varying skills and resistances.

  • Encounters and Events- On your adventure you'll encounter wacky, randomly generated characters, caravans, randomized events, and more.

  • Towns and Settlements- Discover towns with enterable locations such as taverns, smithys, and more. (Currently, towns are fairly early in development and don't contain as much content as they will later on. I plan on doing a big update to address this in the near future).

  • Randomly Generated Items- Find unique weapons and use them to slay your enemies! Find funky, random snacks to give you a boost. (I plan on adding all sorts of randomly generated item possibilities in the near future such as armor pieces, trinkets, and more).

Note: I have plans for a bunch of cool, new stuff I intend on adding but I also fully welcome criticisms and/or content suggestions! In my mind, there's no better way to develop a game than with the input of the community so if you have anything to suggest, no matter how zany or out-there it may be, I'm definitely interested in hearing about it! :)

Is there any way to have an 80x24 screen resolution so I can run this as a BBS door? Also is there any way to have a global 'quit' or 'exit' option as ctrl-c sometimes can break hosting it this way for me. Thanks!

Hey there,

I’m not sure, honestly. I haven’t actually played this game or looked at the code in a while but I appreciate you trying it out nonetheless!

You could definitely try to change the font size in the command prompt settings and adjust the window accordingly though I’m not sure that would have the exact effect you’re looking for.

Is it possible to have a mac and linux build?

Sadly no. The game requires Windows Command Prompt to run.

Really cool love text based game and I have to say this was more or less what I wanted to make when I first started coding. Makes me want to go back to text based projects, nice work

Thanks so much! They’re definitely a lot of fun to make :)

Love text based games/projects. You should! I want to as well.
